I took my first hot yoga class at Be Hot in 2013 and signed up later that week to do teacher training. I felt strongly that it was something I needed to do. A few months later I began teaching the Be Foundation Series, and then felt a strong desire to teach kids yoga and was able to begin teaching kids yoga classes as well shortly after. I have an amazing husband of going on 20 years. We had one beautiful, amazing daughter at the time. Our family then went from 1 to 4 children almost overnight, so I decided it was best to just teach the kids yoga for the time being. My husband and I have also run a local carpet cleaning company the past 15 years, and I was having a hard time keeping up with everything, including my own yoga practice, which is very important to me.
I have always tried to feed my family a healthy, but I had to take things to a whole new level because my babies really struggled when they were younger. (I was doing kinship foster to adopt and my babies struggled with not only sickness but trauma and as they have gotten older behavior issues). This is not what I thought I’d be doing when I initially did teacher training, but how often does life not go according to “our plan”, but rather “divine order”? I had no idea what I was doing the first couple kids classes I taught, but these kids are AMAZING! They have taught me unconditional love, patience, to laugh more, use my imagination more, be more open-minded, play – and be child-like again. I believe the universe had a plan. I LOVE my family. I LOVE teaching kids yoga. I believe strongly in the immense benefits that yoga and meditation offer children. All children, but especially those that struggle with behavior issues, brain trauma, emotional blocks, it improves balance, flexibility, confidence, how to breathe through challenging emotions, improve awareness, brain integration therapy…..the list goes on and on. The best part about it for the kids? One of my most favorite things to do is plan parties, and although we have a structure in class, it’s basically one big party! I love these children and feel so blessed that life doesn’t always go according to my plans.
